DOHA: Fifty new objects will be on display in the permanent galleries of the Museum of Islamic Art from the first day of Ramadan. This new temporary exhibition titled “Unseen Treasures” will take place within the permanent galleries on the second and third floor of the museum.

The new objects represent the history of Islamic civilisation in several regions including Iraq, India, Iran, Turkey, Central Asia, Andalucia and others. “Unseen Treasures” will feature glasswork, textile, manuscripts, ceramics and some metallic objects from the 9th to 19th century.

Alongside with the new exhibition, a treasure trail will be organised for children from six to 16 years old, with a chance for participants to win valuable prizes. In addition, MIA commissioned Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing is to produce a special book which describes “Unseen Treasures” in detail.

“Unseen Treasures is a unique addition to the current objects on display in the permanent galleries in the Museum of Islamic Art,” said Aisha Al Khater, Deputy Director, MIA. “We aim at continuously reinvigorating our galleries to increase the community’s awareness of the diversity of Islamic art throughout history. During Ramadan, all community members are welcome to explore these new precious objects and we look forward to children to participate in our treasure trails.”

During Ramadan, the museum will open from 10am to2pm from Sunday to Wednesday and on Thursdays and Saturday it will be open from 10 am to 2 pm and from 8 pm to 11 pm in the evening. MIA will remain closed on Tuesdays and Fridays, during the Holy month.

“During Ramadan, all community members are welcome to explore these new precious objects and we look forward to children participating in our treasure trails.”
