Interview with Zeynep Fadillioğlu (Turkey)

NEW WAY OF SEEING AND BUILDING A MOSQUE

"I certainly do implement my ideas because if not I would not be designing. But we shouldn’t forget the saying that you can be as good as your client. I could only be completely free designing for myself I presume." (Zeynep Fadillioğlu)

IAM: Tell us something about your career. What made you choose interior design?

Zeynep Fadillioğlu: I have studied computer programming system analysis and history of art in UK. My husband restaurants and club business took me into the interior design world by creating the interiors of his businesses.

IAM: You did the interior of Şakirin Mosque in Istanbul. The decor is very rich, and sophisticated. How did you implement it and what was your goal?

Zeynep Fadillioğlu: I have reflected to Ottoman interiors with an open mind and the modern view.

IAM: Can you tell us more about the team who worked on Şakirin Mosque?

Zeynep Fadillioğlu: Architect Hüsrev Tayla has designed the building. I have contributed in the architecture for a modern look. I changed the facades and courtyard, lengthened the minarets and designed the interior. My team consists of 18 people. Zeynep Fadillioğlu design has worked on this project also whilst. I am known for working on the production of my designs with artists. Addition to my office team, these artists have worked with me in creating architectural details of the building.
