NUQTA App To Launch During The London Shubbak Festival

London / NUQTA, led by award-winning graphic designer Mukhtar Sanders and professional calligrapher Soraya Syed, is the world’s first App linking designers, artists, calligraphers, researchers and enthusiasts using Arabic. Following on from a successful unveiling at Art Week in Dubai, the app and website project will launch at the Edge of Arabia in London during the Shubbak Festival, a window on contemporary Arab culture, on Saturday 29th June.

Canadian artist Mathew Shane selected for residency programme at Maraya Art Centre

SHARJAH / Maraya Art Centre, in collaboration with Dubai’s Cuadro Fine Art Gallery –Dubai-based non-profit group Project Encounter and Sheikh Ibrahim Center– will be hosting Canadian artist Mathew Shane as part of a residency programme aimed at nurturing international artists and opening up dialogue between different cultures through the arts.

Jameel Prize 3 Shortlist Announced

The V&A today announced the shortlist for the Jameel Prize 3. Ten artists and designers have been shortlisted for this year’s £25,000 prize, which is awarded every two years. They are: Faig Ahmed, Nada Debs, Mounir Fatmi, Rahul Jain, Dice Kayek, Waqas Khan, Laurent Mareschal, Nasser Al Salem, Florie Salnot and Pascal Zoghbi.

Architects Norman Foster, Jean Nouvel and Frank Gehry on a panel at Abu Dhabi Art

ABU DHABI / The three Pritzker Architecture-Prize winning architects, Norman Foster, Jean Nouvel and Frank Gehry designers of the Zayed National Museum, Louvre Abu Dhabi and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi in the Saadiyat Cultural District on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi will speak for the first time together on a panel at Abu Dhabi Art (7 – 10 November). The panel entitled Architecture Visionaries will be moderated by Saaed Al Hajeri.

HIPA at the Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival 2012

KUALA LUMPUR / The Hamdan International photography award (HIPA) has caught the eyes of officials and visitors at this year’s concluded Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival which was held in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. The festival, considered one of Asia’s largest imaging and photography gatherings this year featured over 95 exhibitors from all around the world, with HIPA being the only exhibitor from the Middle East / Arab region.

The Abraaj Capital Art Prize Turns Five – ACAP 2013 Winners Announced

Dubai, UAE / The Abraaj Capital Art Prize announced the winning artists for its fifth edition, bringing the total number of winners awarded the prize to 21. The Abraaj Capital Art Prize is awarded annually to five artists on the basis of proposals for new artworks, which become permanent additions to the Abraaj Capital Art Collection following their unveiling at Art Dubai. Abraaj Capital, a leading private equity manager investing in global growth markets, launched the Abraaj Capital Art Prize in 2008 to foster and reward artistic development in the region.
