Ramadan Photography Initiative Hopes to Counter Negative Stereotypes about Muslims and Islam

New York, NY / The third annual “Capture the Spirit of Ramadan” International Photography Competition™ brings people together from around the world under the banner of “bridging cultures and inspiring creativity”. Beautiful photos are shared in an effort to counter the negative images of Islam often seen in the media and to open people’s minds and hearts to the good in the faith.

FotoFest Announced Theme and Dates for the 2014 International Biennial

HOUSTON, TEXAS / FotoFest International announced Contemporary Arab Photographic Art as the theme for its 2014 Biennial Exhibitions of photography, video and multi-media installations. The Biennial will be showcasing more than 40 contemporary Arab artists addressing a broad range of aesthetic and cultural values impacting Arab culture. The FotoFest 2014 Biennial, the Fifteenth International Biennial of Photography and Photo-related Art, will take place March 15 through April 27, 2014, in Houston, Texas.

‘VICTIMS OF WAR’

DUBAI/ Pro Art Gallery, the gallery that celebrates innovative and cutting edge art from the Arab world and beyond, is hosting the non political and non governmental photographic project, VICTIMS OF WAR. The exhibition, is showcasing selected photographic artworks by Australian TV News Anchor in the Middle East, Hermoine Macura, who has spent over a decade covering the Arab world both in front and behind the camera.

‘Barzakh’ by Sami Al Turki

BASEL / At VOLTA9, Basel's cutting-edge art fair for new and emerging art, Athr Gallery presents Saudi artist Sami Al-Turki's works from his latest photographic series ‘Barzakh', inspired by the artist's quest to find a home for himself in his own country. After having lived and studied abroad for a number of years, the artist made the decision to return and settle in his home country of Saudi Arabia, a desert country for the large part that consists mainly of empty land.

‘Prayer Rooms’ by Ammar Al Attar

JEDDAH / A photo exhibition 'Prayer Rooms' opens tonight at Athr Gallery in Jeddah. A photographer Ammar Al Attar surveys prayer rooms across Jeddah. Mandated in public buildings by national legislation, these informal worship areas are ubiquitous, providing the faithful a place for their five prayers a day regardless of their location. The exhibition will run until June 13, 2013.

‘Creating the Future’

DUBAI / The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) has launched its latest edition of the Award at the press conference in the Jumeira Beach Hotel in Dubai. The third season of the Award is set to be themed as 'Creating the Future' and will be a follow-up to the second season of the award 'Beauty of Light'.
