International Photography Workshops come to Dubai – Hosted by the HIPA

DUBAI / The Hamdan International Photography Award (HIPA) is set to host a series of photography workshops during the month of January to raise awareness of the art form in the Emirate. Workshops are set to take place from the 10th until the 14th of January at the Auditorium in the Dubai International Financial Centre and will be presented by some of the biggest names in the photography industry.

Istanbul – Isfahan

LJUBLJANA / An interesting exhibition 'Istanbul – Isfahan' opened presenting the twenty-three prints by the renowned Slovene artist Dušan Pirih Hup at the International Centre of Graphic Arts (Grad Tivoli) in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The exhibition will be open until 18 November 2012.

Photo exhibition “Iftar” by Haris Memija

SARAJEVO / At the Cultural Center King Fahd in Sarajevo, we have an opportunity to see a photo exhibition titled "Iftar" by a Bosnian photographer Haris Memija. 30 very interesting photographs were taken just a few moments before iftar (the evening meal when Muslims break their fast during the month of Ramadan) at Memija's home, his friends or at a local restaurant. Besides the photos of iftar we can also see the photos taken at Gazi Husrev-bey Mosque after the Eid Salat. Haris Memija is a well known Bosnian photographer who presents topics inspired by Islam. The exhibition is open until October 5th, 2012.

The "Capture the Spirit of Ramadan" International Photography Competition (IRPC) is a unique and unprecedented 30-day visual celebration that aims to educate and enlighten viewers around the world about the holy month of Ramadan.

Photo Exhibition “The World in Ramadan”

DUBAI / “The World in Ramadan” exhibition in the Dubai Mall was on Monday (July 23, 2012) officially launched by His Excellency Saeed Al Nabouda, the acting Managing Director of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and the Vice Chairman of the HIPA. Also in attendance were board members of the award: Ali bin Thailth, Sahar Al Zarei, Mater bin Lahej and Majed Al Bastaki. The exhibition includes 22 photographs by 16 photographers from all around the world, showing various Islamic traditions practiced by Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan.

World Press Photo 2012 Exhibition in Sarajevo

SARAJEVO / The exhibition World Press Photo Sarajevo, at the Art Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina, shows 169 winning images from the most recent annual World Press Photo Contest. The exhibitions will run until Maj 22, 2012, then it will move to Banja Luka, and will be open until June 4, 2012.

The Photo Exhibition ‘Somali Refugees’ by Ikram Erdogan

SARAJEVO / In Hanikah, across the Gazi Husrev Bey's Mosque, we had an opportunity to see a photo exhibition presenting Somali refugees. The exhibition was organized by IHH - the Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief and the Istanbul Educational and Cultural Center. The exhibition was open from 2nd to 5th of April 2012.

Women On the Verge

DUBAI / Fourteen sharp, courageous, talented, passionate and inspirational women photographers from the Middle East take center stage in 'Women on the Verge', an expansive group show held concurrent with Art Dubai and Art Week. The exhibition will run at The Empty Quarter from March 20th until April 30th.


A photography exhibition telling a different story about the Middle East showcased striking images from across the Middle East captured by photojournalist Hermoine Macura during her seven years of travels across the region.
