The dynamic Abu Dhabi Art 2010 programme has already attracted a host of international well-known galleries from the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. (List of galleries attached) as well as younger, innovative galleries showing emerging artists. This new concept of boutique style art fair, with fifty galleries, encompassed by a diversity of public programmes, is helping to transform Abu Dhabi Art into one of the leading modern and contemporary international arts platforms, reflecting the multiculturalism of Abu Dhabi.

Under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Abu Dhabi Art 2010 opens to the public on Thursday 4 November with a four-day programme. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural art show, Abu Dhabi Art not only creates a dialogue between international galleries and emerging artists, but also enables visitors to discover, in one place, a diversity of art works from leading contemporary artists around the world.

This November, Abu Dhabi Art 2010 will expand on last year’s programme, while following the concept inaugurated in 2009. The platform will have at its core the art fair with the main show as well as “Signature”, a section dedicated to innovative and challenging contemporary works by emerging international artists in a one person show, and “Beyond”, a selection of outdoor installations. Around the main show, Abu Dhabi Art will present a series of exhibitions, public programmes including workshops, panels, lectures involving leading artists and figures from the international art world and the region, as well as book launches, film screenings and performances. Abu Dhabi Art 2010 will expand “Art, Talks and Sensations” to a three day event, integrating some of the main show artists within the daily programme.

Similar to last year, Abu Dhabi Art will continue to develop the design platform. This part will involve workshops within the Design Studio, a space in which the audience can actively participate in the creation process, meet international designers such as the Campana Brothers and representatives from the Khatt Foundation and Studio Formafantasma, and engage in panel discussions and talks.

His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Tourism Development & Investment Company and Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, said “Abu Dhabi Art is part of a larger programme designed to continue Abu Dhabi’s efforts in enriching cultural life for Emiratis, UAE residents and for our millions of visitors, who are coming to expect something distinctive and compelling in Abu Dhabi. The cultural map is evolving and today, Abu Dhabi and the UAE are at the crossroads of these cultural and artistic intersections. As Abu Dhabi Art continues to grow in its second year, as the museums on Saadiyat Island begin to take shape, and under the direction of HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and HH Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, we are fulfilling the vision to establish Abu Dhabi’s position as a destination of international standing, bridging global cultures and creating an enriching environment to be treasured, as well as create educational opportunities for generations to come. ”

Abu Dhabi Art will, for the second year running, enable Abu Dhabi to host the most influential art patrons and players from all around the world.
