Al-Ihda’at al-Islami’ah (Islamic Inscriptions) is an exhibition of contemporary teapots, ceramic books and works on paper by Husny Dahlan at the Leedell Moorehead-Graham Fine Arts Gallery of the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff.

Inspired by Islamic architecture and tilework, Dahlan’s current show is a celebration of hope in the aftermath of tragedy. Composed primarily of sculptural teapots, Islamic inscriptions appear on the books and works on paper, and are used as a general metaphor for the entire series. The exhibition will be on view until February 3, 2012.

As an award winning artist Husni Dahlan showed his work regionally and nationally. His ceramics and works on paper are influenced by Western, Japanese and Islamic aesthetics and have been included in several juried and invitational exhibitions. More recently, Husny has been involved in community art projects in mural painting. His passion for teaching has led him to conduct numerous workshops and summer programs in art. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
