EXHIBITION From Bosphorus to Sarajevo

The exhibition was opened by Dr Cazim Hadzimejlic, well-known calligraphy master and Turkish Ambassador Cihad Erginay. The programme included a concert by Sonat BaÄŸcan i Seda BaÄŸcan.

Hikmet Barutcugil is one of the most famous traditional Turkish artists who specializes in the art of Ebru. He is a professor at the department of traditional Turkish art at Mimar Sinan University and teaches also at the Academy of Fine Arts of the Marmara University. He has had more than 178 exhibitions, 95 outside of Turkey. He is also the author of seven books on Ebru, and is best known for his specific ebru technique which is named after him Barut-ebru. In Sarajevo he presented works that combine ebru art and painting, as well as the classic ebru works. During the exhibition Barutcugil had an ebru workshop for visitors presenting different ebru techniques.

Aydin Ildem, originally from Bosnia, presented to Sarajevo audience his paintings of traditional Bosnia and Herzegovina where he evoked old Bosnian architecture from the Ottoman period. His paintings show cities such as Sarajevo, Mostar, Konjic, Zvornik and other. We can see the lively bazaar, traditional crafts, architecture in the natural environment and people in traditional costumes, all enriching Ildem's paintings.
