Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial has always been a welcoming host for modernity and tradition. The launch of the sixth edition of Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial starting on April 2, 2014 has been announced on the press conference at the Department of Culture and Information in Al Layah area. This year the biennial will be under the theme 'Get Acquainted', aiming to reveal the power of the letter in bringing cultures together. An art that reflects the spirit of the place and the existence.

This edition of the biennial will host calligraphic and ornamental creations that go beyond the scope of modern and classical Arabic Calligraphy, showing masterpieces from all around the world, like Europe, U.S.A., China and others.

Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial will introduce the features of Islamic civilization and calligraphy as a major form of artistic expression in Islamic culture, especially and particularly in religious context. It will celebrate Arabic calligraphy and its artists by presenting the beauty and authenticity of the letter.

Within the beautiful scenery of letters and under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the U.A.E. and ruler of Sharjah, this edition of Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial under the theme 'Get Acquainted' will include a variety of activities and exhibitions, that celebrate Arabic and Islamic arts and pay tribute to the talented calligraphers from all around the world.

Among the programmes of the Biennial, a parallel seminar will be held under the title 'Acquaintance of the Letter', in addition there will be an honouring celebration for a group of renowned artists from different Arabic and Islamic countries.

The event will include various parallel 'international exhibitions', and 'a general exhibition' that will present calligraphic experiences from various calligraphic schools. There will be also parallel solo exhibitions and workshops, held during the whole period of the biennial, and conducted by innovators from different Arabic and foreign countries.

A variety of Special exhibitions will be held during the biennial period, and these exhibitions are ' Testimonial Verses', 'Pulse in a Wall', 'Bukoor', and many other events that we will present in the following days.
