Workshops were presented by world renowned photographers and HIPA Judges; Martin Grahame-Dunne (UK), Tom Ang (UK) and Joseph Smith (Malta) in January 2013. A fourth workshop was hosted the following February by the Secretary General of the Award H.E. Ali bin Thalith (UAE).

Commenting on the publishing of the workshops, Sahar Al Zarei, the Assistant Secretary General of HIPA said “These workshops were an initiative by the award to develop the skills of aspiring photographers residing in the UAE. By having some of the biggest names in the world of photography share their thoughts and ideas we reached out to the photographic community in the UAE and the feedback we received was great. We had full houses at all our workshops and therefore wanted other photographers who could not attend to gain the same information as those who had attended.”

Al Zarei continued, “These workshops are the first step in pushing HIPA’s academic portfolio which strives to develop the skills of photographers locally and internationally. The international line-up of photographers and the wide range of issues and information covered in the workshops will certainly be priceless to any up and coming photographers who are looking at taking their photography to the next level. By using the internet as a medium we hope that our international followers can view all the workshops and benefit from them the same way local photographers did.”

Established in 2011 by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, HIPA has recently concluded its second season of competition 'Beauty of Light' with a massive Awards Ceremony in Dubai. The third edition of the award is set to be themed 'Creating the Future' and will also hold the largest grand prize award in photography worth US $120,000.
