To meet the European Directive 2010, which called for action against forms of global poverty and social exclusion, manifested Utilities / design for social Launches Design Contest “Less Waste More Rights” to imagine and rethink how to design rational consumption and use of resources. Graphic designers, industrial designers, undergraduate and graduate courses in graphic design and industrial design, are called upon to design a poster or an object culturally sensitive claim “Less Waste More Rights” that produces real change and improvement in compliance with the existing fundamental rights.

Prize
Among all projects, a number of 10 projects will be selected for each category and will be published in the Contest catalogue 2010.

National Geographic Photography Contest

As a leader in capturing our world through brilliant imagery, National Geographic sets the standard for photographic excellence. Now you can share your vision of the world. Enter to win $10,000 and have your photo published in National Geographic magazine! Photos will be judged on creativity and photographic quality. Submit your entry online in any of these three categories: People, Places, and Nature. The photo contest will begin accepting entries in early September, and the contest ends November 30. Winners will be announced in early December. There is an entry fee of U.S. $15 per photo.

Prize
The first-place winner in each category will receive U.S. $2,500, and have their winning photograph published in National Geographic magazine. One grand prize winner will receive, in addition to the first place prize, U.S. $7,500, a trip to National Geographic headquarters and have their photos published in National Geographic magazine. There are no prizes for the Viewers’ Choice winners or the honorable mentions.

Mythic Coastline Illustration Competition

We are searching for an illustrator for a new children’s book (7-9 years), being written by the author, Gareth Thompson, and provisionally entitled “Between the Moon and the Earth”. We are looking for an illustrator who can produce work that invokes the spirit, history and folklore of the area and landscape, and create exciting new experiences from it.

Prize
The competition winner will receive a commission contract from Litfest Publications with an £8000 fee (approx. $12,300 USD) attached to create the illustrations for the provisionally titled work “Between the Moon and the Earth” written by Gareth Thompson.

Living City Design Competition

The International Living Building Institute, in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, invites the world’s most talented and daring designers, planners, artists and animators to create a new global vision: a breathtaking, compelling model for the future of civilization. The Living City Design Competition requires participants to select an existing city anywhere in the world and conceptually transform it through photo-realistic three-dimensional modeling and renderings. Successful entries will capture the attention and imagination of a broad audience, while offering technical information capable of standing up to expert scrutiny.

Prize
The winning entry will receive $75,000 and the second prize is $25,000.

Embracing Our Differences

Embracing Our Differences invites artists, photographers, professionals, amateurs, teachers and students to participate in its 8th annual visual art exhibit celebrating diversity. 45 artists will be selected for the exhibit. The Embracing Our Differences exhibit will be displayed throughout the months of April and May 2011 at Island Park along Sarasota’s beautiful bayfront. Since 2004, the exhibit has been viewed by more than 850,000 visitors. The exhibit will contain 39 billboard-sized (16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high) images of the selected artworks. In the judges’ discretion, an additional six “honorable mention” selections may be made.

A total of $3,000.00 in awards will be presented.

Nikon Photo Contest International

The 33rd Nikon Photo Contest International is an international photo contest designed to provide an opportunity for photographers of all skill levels around the world to communicate and contribute to photographic culture. In recent years, the contest has been held every other year.

Categories
Entries for the 2010-2011 contest will be accepted for two categories. The first category is a free subject category (A) and the second entitled “Energy” (B). Photos of any subject or theme are invited for the free subject category. Entries for the “Energy” category should be photos that capture the energy of sights and subjects that inspire, motivate or excite you or viewers. Photos covering a broad range of subject matter from throughout the world are expected for both categories. The Emerging Talent Award is awarded to provide younger photographers with an opportunity to share their photos and a goal towards which they may work, and many photos are entered by young photographers each time this contest is held.

Prize
Recipients of a total of 53 awards and prizes will receive Nikon imaging products. In addition to their awards, 21 recipients of the Grand Prize, Emerging Talent Awards and Emerging Talent Awards runners up will be permitted to exhibit their entries in the contest Mini Gallery.
