For the second year in succession, the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) is set to host photography workshops during January to raise awareness of photography in the UAE.

Two workshops will take place on Monday the 13th and Wednesday the 15th of January at the Auditorium, Centre of Excellence in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). Workshops will run from 6.30 p.m. until 9 p.m. and are open to the general public through RSVP.

The workshop on January 13 will be presented by Caroline Metcalfe, Director of Photography at the Conde Nast Traveler magazine. While the workshop on January 15 will be hosted by the world-renowned photography judge Henk van Kooten.

Commenting on the workshops, Ali bin Thalith, the Secretary General of HIPA said “We are once again very proud to bring some of the worlds most distinguished photographers to Dubai to share their knowledge with the local photographic community. Our two presenters for this year have several decades worth of experience in the photography industry and we feel that they will bring invaluable advice to all the up and comers who will attend. The success of the workshops we hosted last year played a big part in shaping our decision to host them again this year, we hope to benefit more photographers and inspire them to excel in the art form through such initiatives.”

HIPA recently (December 31, 2013) closed entries for its third season of competition 'Creating the Future'. Founded in 2011 under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, the award is set to boast a grand prize of $120,000 and an overall prize pool of $389,000.
