May 18, 2013NEW YORK / A large-scale site-specific work of art by Imran Qureshi (b. 1972, Hyderabad, Pakistan)—an artist known for his unique style of combining the motifs, symbolism, and ornamental techniques of Islamic art with modern conceptual approaches—is the 2013 installation on The Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, opened on May 14. The installation will be on view until November 3, 2013.
May 17, 2013LONDON / Hossein Valamanesh’s works range from multi-media installations to sculpture, video, painting and drawing. 'Breath', his first solo exhibition in London will showcase this variety of practice through a selection of bronze sculptural pieces, two installations and several works on paper. The exhibition will open on May 28 at Rose Issa Projects and will run until June 28, 2013.

Mandated in public buildings by national legislation, these informal worship areas are ubiquitous, providing the faithful a place for their five prayers a day regardless of their location. The exhibition will run until June 13, 2013.

In her own words, Sophia Sattar "explores the long history of using calligraphy as ornamentation, in Islamic art and takes this concept further by merging her western education with her religious and cultural sensibility." The exhibition will run until June 30, 2013.
