Architects Norman Foster, Jean Nouvel and Frank Gehry on a panel at Abu Dhabi Art

ABU DHABI / The three Pritzker Architecture-Prize winning architects, Norman Foster, Jean Nouvel and Frank Gehry designers of the Zayed National Museum, Louvre Abu Dhabi and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi in the Saadiyat Cultural District on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi will speak for the first time together on a panel at Abu Dhabi Art (7 – 10 November). The panel entitled Architecture Visionaries will be moderated by Saaed Al Hajeri.

1001 Inventions and Arabick Roots exhibitions in Doha

DOHA / Her Excellency Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museum Authority, opened the 1001 Inventions and Arabick Roots Exhibitions at the Museum of Islamic Art. At the event, attended by 500 distinguished members of the local and international cultural communities, guests were led through the exhibition on a journey to the Golden Age of Muslim Civilization in a memorable celebration of modern science’s heritage. Connected by the theme: “Explore our past to inspire our future,” the two exhibitions opened to the publicwith 1001 Inventions running until November 12th and Arabick Roots continuing until January 2013.

Tourism and Handicrafts in the Muslim World

A first unique volume and documentary publication presenting Handicrafts from the Tourism dimension in nearly 50 countries. 1000 pages in English and Arabic with rich presentation of colored photos of innovated pieces of craft products in various fields. It also includes research site studies and statistics on Tourism and Handicrafts with proposed plans for future development. 'Tourism and Handicrafts in the Muslim World' by Nazeih Taleb Maarouf was published in Istanbul by IRCICA, Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture.

Next month’s Abu Dhabi Art welcomes contemporary designers, artists, architects

Abu Dhabi / The fourth edition of Abu Dhabi Art, a platform for modern and contemporary art held under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, welcomes renowned art world personalities for its 2012 public programme. Adel Abidin, Frank Gehry, Richard Armstrong, Jean Nouvel, Subodh Gupta, Bharti Kher, Stuart Haygarth, Abdulnasser Gharem, Ghada Amer, Mohammed Kazem and Marina Abramovic (for her first time in the Middle East), are just some of the names in town that week, reflecting the international calibre of Abu Dhabi Art and the capital as a cross-roads for the arts scene.

Akbar. The Great Emperor of India

ROME (Italy) / The Fondazione Roma presents an exhibition devoted to the Emperor of India, Akbar (Umarkot, 1542 – Agra, 1605) one of the greatest sovereigns in history. This exhibition has never been held before in Italy and, due to the number of works and historical completeness, is unique in the world since it covers the Emperorʼs entire reign. The last exhibition on this theme was held in New York by the Asia Society in 1984-86, showing around eighty works relating to 1571-1585.

QUOZ: First Initiative Among 30 Arts Spaces in ME Region

DUBAI / This November, the UAE’s arts scene continues to diversify with the launch of a new annual arts initiative titled QUOZ, the first such project to take place in the region. An array of events dedicated to the public will take place on 10 November among 30 arts spaces in the industrial area of Al Quoz, Dubai, from 10am - 10pm.

HIPA at the Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival 2012

KUALA LUMPUR / The Hamdan International photography award (HIPA) has caught the eyes of officials and visitors at this year’s concluded Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival which was held in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. The festival, considered one of Asia’s largest imaging and photography gatherings this year featured over 95 exhibitors from all around the world, with HIPA being the only exhibitor from the Middle East / Arab region.

‘Paraître’ by Nicènce Kossentini at Sabrina Amrani Art Gallery

MADRID / In the exhibition ‘Paraître’ Nicene Kossentini examines contemporary Tunisian society after the revolution. Among the ideological and political conflicts, the issue of identity emerges in a search for a new social model, and the social reference points diverge and divide between religion and modernity, freedom and conservatism. The presented artworks explore the confusion and disorder of identity by juxtaposing opposing dualities with origin in the theme of religion, generations or culture and heritage. The show is composed of video installation, ink works, photographic installation and sound and will run until 20 October 2012.
