Abraaj Capital Art Prize 2012 Winners Announced

Dubai, UAE, October 2011 / The Abraaj Capital Art Prize announced the five winning artists for 2012. The artists, who were selected from a record number of submissions, have begun working on realizing the artworks they proposed which will be unveiled during Art Dubai in March 2012. The artworks become permanent additions to the Abraaj Capital Collection.

Auction ‘Art and Antiques of the Islamic World’, the First of Its Kind in the UAE

On October 17,2011 Ayyam Auctions will present 'Art and Antiques of the Islamic World: The Ottoman Levant Between the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries'. As the inaugural event of a new series of public sales, this forthcoming auction will offer over 50 lots of masterworks with a special emphasis on artefacts from the Ottoman Empire. The first of its kind to be held in the United Arab Emirates, this forthcoming auction is expected to add a new component to Dubai’s competitive art market.

‘Dust Breeding’ by Turkish Artist Ergin Çavusoglu

The Pavilion Downtown Dubai presents a solo show by Turkish artist Ergin Çavusoglu (October 2 – December 4, 2011) consisting of a largescale interactive vinyl perspective floor drawing in Gallery 2. The artwork functions as a manipulation of perception and space and also provides an astute commentary on issues of real estate and labor.

Rachid Koraïchi - the Winner of the Jameel Prize 2011

Algerian born Rachid Koraïchi has won the £25,000 Jameel Prize for a selection of embroidered cloth banners from a series entitled Les Maitres invisibles (The Invisible Masters), 2008. Martin Roth, Director of the V&A, Hasan Jameel and Ed Vaizey MP, presented Rachid Koraïchi with the prize at a ceremony at the V&A on Monday 12 September.

A photography exhibition telling a different story about the Middle East showcased striking images from across the Middle East captured by photojournalist Hermoine Macura during her seven years of travels across the region.
