Symbolic Cities: The Work of Ahmed Mater

Since the early 20th century, Saudi Arabia has experienced extraordinary political, economic and social transformation. Bringing together works by leading Saudi Arabian artist Ahmed Mater (b. 1979), 'Symbolic Cities' offers unique perspectives on the effects of such changes on this country. This is the first and only showing of this exhibition in the United States solely dedicated to works by this artist, on view at the Smithsonian’s Arthur M. Sackler Gallery until September 18.

‘Bodies’, a Solo Exhibition by Hamra Abbas

LawrieShabibi launches the new art season with 'Bodies', a solo exhibition by Hamra Abbas, her second at the gallery. Moving effortlessly between a variety of materials, 'Bodies' is influenced by her recent move back to her hometown Lahore, relating her distinct experiences and observations of middle-class religious practices in homes and in the city’s public spaces.

5th Annual Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Islamic Art

Presented by the Islamic Art Revival Series in partnership with Irving Arts Center, the 5th Annual Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Islamic Art is a program of the Texas Muslim Women’s Foundation. Dr Maryam Ekhtiar, Associate Curator of Islamic Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will act as juror for the exhibition which will be on display in the Main Gallery at Irving Arts Center from September 17 until November 13.
