ISTANBUL (TURKEY) Contemporary Istanbul which will be held on 25‐28 November in İstanbul Convention and Exhibition Center, announced the values of the artworks. While the total value of the artworks that will be exhibited is 50 million TL, the 35 million TL part of it belongs to Turkish artists.

This year appears to be the golden year of the Turkish Contemporary Artists regarding the total value of the artworks exhibited in the fair that is 50 million TL. Among the Turkish artists representing artworks valued at 30 million TL in total, Güneştekin attracts the attention with his total value of the artworks in “Religions” series, valued at 7.5 million TL. Güneştekin breaks a new record with his artwork called “Doors Opening to Sun” valued at 3.5 million TL. Comparing to last year’s %59 of sale, this year %75‐80 of the artworks are estimated to be sold by the Chairman of the board of directors of Contemporary Istanbul Ali Güreli. He also remarked that %70 of sale will be the works of Turkish artists.

Contemporary Istanbul

Contemporary Istanbul, the most extensive contemporary art event in Turkey, plays a significant role in introducing Turkish art in international area and turning Ä°stanbul into an attraction center of art. The fair which celebrates its 5th year, appears to be accomplished its role. The fair seems to break a new record by bringing 43 galleries from Turkey, 37 galleries from 14 countries together with 2000 artworks by 420 artists.

The golden year of Turkish Contemporary Art

This year the works of Ahmet Güneştekin which are designed specially for Contemporary Istanbul every year, will be presented under the theme of “Religions”. “Doors Opening to Sun” which is valued at 3.5 million TL among 7.5 million TL valued artworks of him will break a new record. Güneştekin who reflects interpretations from mythology and myths including cultural symbols will present his works at the fair referring to the connective effect of the religions. The fair in which Turkish Contemporary artists experience the golden year by participating with artworks valued at 35 million TL in total, the works of worldwide known artists are also exhibited. Significant artworks of the artists such as Franz Ackermann, Andreas Gursky, Andy Warhol, Shirin Neshat, and the wife of Botero, Sophia Vari will be in Contemporary Istanbul.
