Olympia Auctions is delighted to announce the sale of a large collection of Iznik pottery dishes from Ottoman Turkey in the June 5th sale of Islamic, Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian Art.

A vast assemblage of Iznik pottery dishes hailing from the heart of Ottoman Turkey, predominantly tracing their origins to the late 16th to early 17th century, adorns this remarkable collection. These artefacts are a testament to the unparalleled ingenuity, vibrant hues, and masterful designs.

The earlier pottery stands as an exquisite embodiment of the quintessential 'classical' Ottoman style, embodying the epitome of artistic finesse and cultural refinement. Yet, within the dishes crafted during the 17th century, we witness a captivating evolution, as Iznik craftsmen endeavoured to broaden the reach of their creations, captivating a wider audience with their superb motifs, often featuring whimsical depictions of fauna.

Each dish is a testimonial of cultural exchange, artistic exploration, and the pursuit of aesthetic excellence. Through their intricate patterns and vivid palettes, Iznik pottery dishes serve as windows into a rich Ottoman history and creativity. The collection was amassed in London in the 1950s-1960s. Estimates range from £300-£5000.
