PHOTO EXHIBITION ‘Bands of Death’ Mark the 26th Anniversary of the Genocide in Srebrenica
Jul 11, 2021 INSPO, Exhibition
On July 11, 1995, the worst war crime since World War II took place in the town of Srebrenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Genocide was committed against Bosniak Muslims in this city and its surroundings by Serbian military forces, during which over 8,000 inhabitants were killed. Every year on this date, we remember the anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica. Apart from Srebrenica, the date of the genocide is being honoured all over the world.
The Memorial Center Srebrenica - PotoÄari, in cooperation with the University of Sarajevo, organized a photo exhibition titled 'Bands of Death' at the Faculty of Philosophy to mark the 26th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.
The exhibition consists of a series of photographs from the archives of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the archives of the Srebrenica-PotoÄari Memorial Center, which show bonds found in mass graves in the Srebrenica area, with which the victims were tied before execution. A catalogue also accompanies the exhibition and a campaign of six billboards displayed in the Sarajevo Canton containing the message "Not to be forgotten and not repeated."
