SHARJAH ISLAMIC ARTS FESTIVAL (DEC 13, 2017 - JAN 23, 2018) Connecting Doors by David Moreno
Jan 19, 2018 Art Event
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and ruler of Sharjah, the Cultural Affairs Department at the Sharjah Department of Culture has organised the 20th edition of the Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival.
The installation 'Connecting Doors' is on view at the Sharjah Art Museum as part of the Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival 2017/18.
David Moreno, refers to his works as "drawing". We could say that he draws imaginary architecture. To contemplate his pieces is to get lost in them. The aesthetic experience comes with reflection. Moreno's architecture expresses the bonds we establish, the interconnections, the flows of energy. David Moreno explores new territories, experimenting with colours and with the construction of imaginary spaces.
With 'Connecting Doors' Moreno connects East and West by connecting two doors. One side has a door from an Islamic Mosque and the other side has a door from a European Cathedral. A visitor enters through one and exits through the other. Moreno uses steel rods to connect the both doors which allow a viewer to see through the construction, which seems almost as an imaginary architecture.
