ABU DHABI / Salwa Zeidan Gallery is hosting a collective exhibition by three diverse Middle Eastern artists: Iraqi-Dutch Nedim Kufi, Emirati Fatema Al Mazrouie and British-Iranian Kourosh Salehi.

“This showcase marks the coming together of contemporary artists who share a common passion for channeling their personal experiences, challenges and learnings through their work in the most direct and honest form possible as a means of connecting with viewers,” commented gallery director Salwa Zeidan, “Be it in the form of words, pictures or images, their mix of elements is bound to engage viewers as they identify with a language that comes from a place of passion to express “Truth”.

NEDIM KUFI

was born in Bagdad in 1962; he now lives and works in the Netherlands. Kufi graduated in printmaking from Iraq, and then continued to study graphic design and multimedia in the Netherlands and has since then, been caught between the East and the West. He has traversed a long and arduous journey, and the evolution is evident in his works. Kufi’s intellectual work has been presented as multimedia and selected as new media art in a number of important places such as Tate modern, KW Berlin, Tapies foundation - Barcelona, Triangle art association – New York and recently was successful in Bonhams London.

KOUROSH SALEHI

is part of a group of post-revolution Iranian artists who have merged East-Western traditions and have invented a new language of exile, and in this regard is considered as one of the significant painters of his generation. Identity plays a significant role in Salehi’s work. Born in Iran and raised in London, he studied traditional Persian painting as a child and later attended art school in the UK. His dual cultural heritage is intensely present in his work. His paintings construct a narrative of an emotional severance from people, places and time: a personal journey which is patched together using old letters, photos, digital imagery and hand drawings, and retold with passion and candor. Salehi has had numerous group and solo exhibitions in Europe and the Middle East.

True art represents and reveals the artist, laying out his soul for all to see; every good painter ultimately paints who he is. The idea of art having the power to reveal the truth manifests itself in the title of the Exhibition “Truth” which is the same word in both Arabic and Farsi (”Haqiqah”) and links the three artists in a distinct way.

The Exhibition is at Salwa Zeidan Gallery and will be open to the public until June 17th, 2011.
Admission is free for all.
