KUALA LUMPUR / The Hamdan International photography award (HIPA) has caught the eyes of officials and visitors at this year’s concluded Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival which was held in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. The festival, considered one of Asia’s largest imaging and photography gatherings this year featured over 95 exhibitors from all around the world, with HIPA being the only exhibitor from the Middle East / Arab region.

Opening the KLPF 2012 was His Excellency Dato’ Hon Choon Kim, former deputy Minister of Education in Malaysia. A well-known figure and keen photographer himself, His Excellency’s first visit inside the festival was to the HIPA stand which instantly caught his attention. Mr. Kim was presented with an official HIPA publication and was very grateful for the efforts shown by HIPA in promoting photography on a global and regional level.

The HIPA stand was also visited by the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Nasser Salman Al Aboodi. Al Aboodi expressed his pride at how “HIPA represented the United Arab Emirates to the world by showcasing the art of photography”. He congratulated the HIPA team on their “commitment and achievement of being the standout exhibitors at KLPF 2012”.

Sahar Al Zarei, the Assistant secretary general of HIPA commented “by taking part at KLPF 2012, we targeted an international exposure like no other. The huge Asian photographic community has really shown their interest in our award at the fair, and we hope that many photographers from this part of the world will take part in our award as a result”.

Established upon the vision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, HIPA is currently in its second season of competition. It is set to boast the largest grand prize award in the world of US $120, 000 and an overall prize pool of $389,000.
