An interactive installation titled 'Patterns', by the Emirati artist Azza Al Qubaisi is currently on view at the Sharjah Art Museum. The installation invites visitors to discuss the use of geometry in connection to floral design. The visitors can socialize and connect while observing the artwork, which is visually divided into three parts. Six illuminated pieces of various heights, in golden colour, remind us of multi-story buildings. Each line is symbolizing a new floor. In front of them, twelve blue shapes, dressed in velvet fabric, are shaped in a floral pattern. The third part of this intriguing artwork blends the two and represents a comfortable seating area. All parts together combine a pattern of three floral compositions, connecting the cold industrial feel with inviting hospitality of the seating area.
The colour palette that the artist used for this artwork contains various shades of blue and gold, consistent with the use of Islamic patterns throughout history. The beams of light make this installation visually very appealing.
