SARAJEVO, BiH / On December 15th, in the Bosniak Institute in Sarajevo Aida Abadžić-Hodžić opened the exhibition of works of Alija M. Akšamija, the oldest living photographer and one of the most important artists of this kind in BiH and Europe.

The exhibition features 64 photographs done in AkÅ¡amija’s own way, depicting daily life, nature, emotion and movement.

Aida Abadžić-Hodžić pointed out that the AkÅ¡amija is one of the pioneers of art photography in BiH. “AkÅ¡amija is quietly entering into everyday situations and faithfully transmits them to the photo. In front of his lens the rocks along the river are becoming petrified symphony, and a cracked mud of Drina the finest arabesque.” said Abadžić-Hodžić.

The exhibition is organized by the Bosnian Institute in cooperation with the Bosniak National Community for the City of Zagreb and Zagreb County. “This exhibition was seen first in Zagreb, Porec and Buzet, and was highly attended. After Sarajevo, this exhibition will travel across Croatia,” said vice president of Bosniak National Community of Zagreb Dževad Jogunčić.

The exhibition will be open in the Bosniak Institute until January 15th 2011.

Alija M. Akšamija is one of the most famous and most important Bosnian photographers. He is a holder of numerous national and international honors and awards (FIAP, EUROPHOT, USUF ...), the winner of the European Award for lifetime achievement to a high standard of creative work within the analog and digital photography in 2008. He participated in numerous group exhibitions, and solo exhibitions in all major world centers. His papers were published in numerous journals, books and monographs. The work of Alija M. Akšamija was listed in the’‘pictures’‘of Yugoslav Almanac.
