The construction of a new Mosque in Sarajevo
Oct 25, 2010 Architecture
Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has about 120 mosques, however, Ilidza is the only part of the town that didn’t have a mosque. Now, the Muslims living in that part of Sarajevo are getting one soon.
As seen on the photos bellow, this is a bold concept of modern Islamic architecture since the whole mosque is being built in the shape of the dome with a few stylized traditional architectural elements. It is placed at the shore of the river Zeljeznica and close to the Sarajevo Airport. This building is a response to the growing needs of the believers in this part of Sarajevo. The construction is largely financed with donations by the members of Muslim Community in Ilidza and with the help of the Ilidza Municipality.
