THE NY ART MARATHON is an international art competition, which offers its 10 finalists the opportunity to participate in a group show in New York City (Orensanz Art Gallery, Lower East Side), $3000 cash prize for the winner, People's Award for the most voted-for artist and a choice of either a review, interview, or YouTube video-slide-show with the curator for the selected artist of the week.

THEME

The theme for THE NY ART MARATHON Spring 2011 is “NEW VISION = NEW WORLD. Break old canons, create new art.”

JUDGING

The juror for the NY ART MARATHON Spring 2011 is David Gibson, a well-known NY art critic and curator who has curated numerous shows all over the United States, reviewed by New York Times, Art in America, The Miami Herald, New York Arts, New York Art World, WagMag, Time Out NY, The Cleveland Free Times, Sculpture Magazine, The Village Voice, and other publications. As an art critic, David Gibson published numerous catalogue essays, books and exhibition reviews in NY SoHo Arts, Cover Arts, C Magazine, Zingmagazine, Article Magazine, Flash Art, NY Arts, Performing Arts Journal, Art Notes, Vellum Magazine, and other publications. David Gibson taught and gave lectures at the University of Massachusetts, Indiana University, University of Central Florida, Christie’s Education, University of Wisconsin, School of Visual Arts NY, Pratt Institute NY, The Cleveland Institute of Art, Parsons School of Design NY, and other institutions, and was an interviewer and was himself interviewed on radio and television.

PRIZES

* 10 finalists participate in THE NY ART MARATHON group show during the month of June 2011 at the Orensanz Art Gallery located in the famous landmark building in The Lower East Side.
* The Winner - chosen by the juror - receives a $3000 cash prize.
* The most voted-for artist receives the People’s Award and is featured for a year on the main webpage of THE NY ART MARATHON.
* Each week, the juror / curator selects one artist. The selected artist has a choice of either a review, interview, or youtube video-slide-show with the curator. The review, interview, or youtube video-slide-show is published on THE NY ART MARATHON’s blog and social networks.

ENTRY

There is an entry fee of $25 for the first image and $15 for every next image up to 3 images.

DEADLINE for submission: June 15th, 2011

TERMS

* Any media and genres are welcome, from traditional to digital.
* You can submit up to 3 images for THE NY ART MARATHON. Each image should be 72 dpi and no more than 700 KB.
* THE NY ART MARATHON entries are displayed on its website in a grid style. Each entry includes the name of the artist, title of the artwork, year, media, size, and the web address for the personal website of the artist (optional). Placement in the grid of submissions is chronological (first grid-page demonstrates first submissions).
* 50 semi-finalists, selected by the juror, are available for public voting the week after the deadline. Public voting goes for one week.
* Finalists will be notified by May 1st, 2011, and arrangements are made to ship their artworks to NYC.
* THE NY ART MARATHON pays expenses for shipping the artwork to and from NYC. Artwork should be signed and labeled on the reverse side with the name, date of birth, country, title of the artwork, media, size, and year.
* Each finalist exhibits one work of the size no bigger than 40"x60” in a group show in the New York gallery district.

    The deadline is moved to June 15th, so you still have a chance to participate. The board of the judged is extended too:

    ...The board of judges also includes Vitaly Komar, one of the “100 Best Artists of the 20th Century,” represented at some of world’s best museums and private art collections, the founder of SotsArt movement; Alexandre Gertsman, a premiere dealer of Russian Art in New York, who served as an organizer and curator of Russian art exhibitions in museums worldwide, the owner of “Alexandre Gertsman Contemporary Art Gallery;” and Jill Conner, the New York Editor of Whitehot Magazine and Editor of On-Verge, Contributor to ArtUS, Art in America, Interview Magazine, Performance Art Journal and Sculpture Magazine.
