As part of the Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival, a joint exhibition 'Traditional Handicrafts from Khorezm' presents works by three Uzbek artists Kasimov Jamol, Nazarov Anor and Sheykha Abdullaeva.

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the Cultural Affairs Department at the Sharjah Department of Culture has organised the 22nd edition of the Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival, which will run until January 21, 2020.

The Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival presents contemporary installations as well as the masters of traditional arts, such as calligraphy, tezhib (illumination), ceramic arts, book-binding arts, works in metal, etc. The opening of 'Traditional Handicrafts from Khorezm' was attended by HE Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of Sharjah Department of Culture; Mohammed Al Qaseer, Head of Cultural Affairs and General Coordinator at the Department of Culture; and Farah Qassim Mohammed, Islamic Arts Festival Executive; in the presence of the artists, media and esteemed guests.

The exhibition features some of the historical and everyday life stories of the Uzbeks. The visitors can see copper handcrafted plates, and a beautiful lamp, decorated with metal calligraphy. Traditional works in metal are one of the historical legacies of the Uzbekistan people, passed down for generations, for hundreds of years. Khorezm is one of the most important regions with its prominent historical heritage, dating back to the early Islamic era. Well known for excellence in traditional arts and science, to this day, it retains unique features that distinguish it from other regions in Uzbekistan.
