In this issue, Islamic Arts eMagazine brings plenty of interesting content covering 290 pages. We can read about the city of Travnik, which was the capital city of Bosnia from the 18th to the mid 19th century. We also present a reportage from Istanbul, a beautiful city where East meets West, and thereto, we visit the Askeri Museum with the story on how the splendid and intricate designs of the weaponry of the Ottoman-Turkish army became objects of Islamic art. Istanbul is a place of amazing mosques and we are also pleased to present a piece on the splendour of the magnificent Åžehzade Mehmed Mosque in that city.
Two articles in this issue that attract particular attention are the “Light of the Sufis: The Mystical Arts of Islam†and the “Everyday Poetics: The Autobiographical Art of Arwa Abouonâ€. In these presented texts, Valerie Behiery, in a remarkable way, analyzes on the one hand, the contribution of Sufism in Islamic Art, and on the other, the art of contemporary Canadian artist Arwa Abouon is a true lesson in the visual beauty within the barrier-breaking realm of Islamic art.
Interviews with featured artists provide a special dimension to every issue of our magazine. In this issue, we introduce the Bosnian painter Sead Emrić, Iranian calligrapher Saeed Rezai, Egyptian graphic designer Islam Zayed, Pakistani photographer Awais Yaqub, and a great interview with UK artist, Mohammed Ali, with his technique known as “Aerosol Arabic” conducted by Nisa Terzi.
We hope that you will enjoy this new 290 page issue of Islamic Arts eMagazine.
