HIPA Winners of the General Category

In the part three of the Winners of HIPA 2016-17 we are presenting the winning photographs from the 'General' category

One third of submissions that HIPA receives year after year is in the 'General' category. This category is available for the photographers who don't necessarily fall in any of other categories. This category is divided into two subcategories: 'Black & White' and 'Colour'. Whether a photographer prefers a classical art form or dazzling colours each can find their place within this category.

In the 'General - Black & White' category we have the following winners: Apurba Mallik from India, Tobias Binder from Germany and Khalil Al Mansoori from United Arab Emirates. And in the 'General - Colour' category the winners are: Giuseppe Bonali from Italy, Petar Sabol from Croatia and Daniel Jonas Reiter from Germany.

WINNERS OF 'GENERAL - BLACK & WHITE' CATEGORY

1st Winner - 'To Catch a Blessing' by Apurba Mallick, India

The photo shows a woman pushing others in attempt to catch holy 'Prasad', a religious ritual performed by Hindus in rural West Bengal in India.

2nd Winner - 'The Peace Village' by Tobias Binder, Germany

For many young victims of war, medical treatment in Europe is their last chance for survival. An initiative established in 1967 by German citizens has helped many children over the years to come to Europe for medical treatment and rehabilitation. Upon successful rehabilitation children return home.

3rd Winner - 'Flood of Loneliness' by Khalil Al Mansoori, United Arab Emirates

The photo shows an elderly woman living alone in the Arunachal Pradesh province in Northern India. She is clutching her head in agony. Living in a remote tribal region with no support from family or friends has taken a toll on the 85 year old.

WINNERS OF 'GENERAL - COLOUR' CATEGORY

1st Winner - 'The Balance' by Giuseppe Bonali, Italy

The photo shows a small ant balancing itself upright using two leaves while a water drop is about to fall. Very colourful and sharp image, presenting a whole new universe in macro world that mostly we are not even aware.
