Exploring the Shapes and Curves of Arabic Letters

Sabah Arbilli (born 1977) is an Iraqi- British artist known for his painting and sculpture. Over the last ten years Arbilli's work has had a tremendous impact on Arabic calligraphy-inspired art on the international art scene. A winner of many awards, he explores calligraphy in a new contemporary style. His practice combines a painterly aesthetic with the beauty of Arabic letters. In this interview, Arbilli shares his views on his art and invites us closer to understanding and feeling his work.

HIPA Distributes Exclusive ‘Capture One Pro 7’ Software to Shortlisted Photographers

The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) has begun distributing copies of its limited edition copy of photo editing software ‘Capture One Pro 7’ to all shortlisted photographers from the "Beauty of Light" season. The software was initially launched by HIPA during the GITEX technology week last month and distributed to over 200 photographers who attended HIPA’s stand during the technology week.

Ferozkoh: Tradition and Continuity in Afghan Art

A new exhibition, Ferozkoh: Tradition and Continuity in Afghan Art, has launched in London. The striking exhibition is the result of a collaboration between the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in Doha, Qatar and students and teachers from the Turquoise Mountain Institute for Afghan Arts and Architecture, in Kabul. The exhibition will be on display at Leighton House Museum until 23 February 2014 as part of both Qatar UK 2013 Year of Culture and the Nour Festival of Arts.

‘Passages//Toroq’ by Sherin Guirguis

The Third Line is pleased to present Sherin Guirguis’ first solo show in Dubai. Sherin investigates post-colonial themes of political, cultural and social dogma within the framework of the Egyptian diaspora, both in the public and private spheres. Delving deep into the building blocks of culture and identity, specifically from the approach of a diaspora artist, she presents her interpretation of what it means to be defined by the transformative events of the moment.
