Exhibition of miniatures ‘Charming Istanbul’, by Mihaela Alpayer opened at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Sarajevo (BiH).

The exhibition is hosted by Ambassador Cihad Erginay and curated by Beste Gürsu. The exhibition is organized by Istanbul Intercultural Art Dialogues Association (IKASD) and will remain open until February 28, 2015.

While remaining faithful to the classical approach Alpayer adds her own mark, making her work unique in the art of miniature. Alpayer's miniatures reflect her love for Istanbul, inspired by its characteristics and culture.

Born in 1971, Romania, Mihaela Alpayer has developed a passion for miniature and calligraphy by learning from the experts. She studied illumination from Gülnur Duran at Kubbealtı Nakışhanesi (2002-2003). She attended the Topkapı Palace Turkish Decorative Arts Illumination Course (2004- 2006) where she learnt from Semih İrteş and Mamure Öz. She worked with Lecturer Semih İrteş at the Gilding Specialized Class and in 2009 she began working with Taner Alakuş at the Traditional Turkish Arts Foundation in the department for Miniature.

Mihaela Alpayer's has won many awards for her miniatures and her works have been included in the State Collection.

    Dear Enilorac, thank you for your comment. It’s a beautiful exhibition, worth seeing in person. As for the second image, Islamic Arts Magazine took the caption from the exhibition. It looks like a ‘game of polo’ but it was signed as ‘Hunting Scene’.

    Wish I were in Sarajevo and could view this beautiful exhibition in person.  I would like to ask whether the second miniature pictured above, described as a Hunting Scene, is not in fact a Game of Polo? regards, Enilorac
