PHOTOGRAPHY HIPA Announces August Winners Of Its Instagram Photo Contest

The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) has concluded the August edition of the Instagram Photo Contest themed ‘Harvest’. Ten winners were announced for the competition which received submissions under the hashtag #HIPAContest_Harvest. The contest winners hailed from Turkey, Indonesia, and Bangladesh. August’s People’s Choice Award winner will receive a brand new CANON EOS M50, courtesy of CANON Middle East.

HIPA Secretary General, His Excellency Ali bin Thalith said, “Harvest is a human ritual that has withstood the tests of time. It is a ritual known to all humankind and varies from one civilization to another. However, at the intersection of all these rituals, you will find joy and beauty and the source of great imagery to be captured by the creative lens of a photographer. Each of our winning photos bears a unique visual blueprint in style and detail. As always, we congratulate all our winners and encourage our community to continue participating.”

August’s winner of the ‘People’s Choice Award’ is Orhan Tanhan (@orhan_tanhan) from Turkey and he said, “I took the picture in Nazilli town of Aydin province. I was with my friend Hakan and his son as we toured a strawberry field. The shot came at the right moment when his son reached out to catch the strawberry fruit. I have had the feeling of winning before but it is my first time on social media, I shared the feeling of winning with my friend and son and this was great. I hope through winning to get closer to the photography communities.”

The Palestinian winner, Ayesh Mohammed Haroon (@ayeshharoon) said, “The photo was taken in the Gaza Strip in Palestine, where the traditional olive harvest season sees family members gathering in favourable social rituals. This is my second win as a photographer. I aspire to share and spread ancient Palestinian traditions through photography because I believe that photography is a cultural bridge connecting the countries of the world."
