HIPA Concludes Successful Participation at ‘PhotoImage Brasil’

DUBAI / The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) has concluded its participation at PhotoImage Brasil in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo. Running from the 28th until the 30th of August 2013, and considered to be the largest photography and imaging exposition in South America, PhotoImage Brasil hosted thousands of international visitors with the HIPA stand itself playing host to over 15,000 people during the 3 day event.

Sahar Al Zarei, the assistant secretary general of HIPA commented that "HIPA’s participation at PhotoImage Brasil can easily be considered one of the top overseas participations by the award in its short history. There were participants from over 60 nations worldwide at PhotoImage Brasil, and it is with great pride that HIPA was the sole representative of the Arab world and the Middle East."

Al Zarei continued "What drew most crowds into our stand were the public photography lectures by world renowned photographer Martin Grahame-Dunne which took place three times a day. We also received great support from the United Arab Emirates embassy staff in Brazil who assisted in translating our lectures to the general public who in turn were fantastically receptive of what the award had on offer at the event. We hope to carry on the success attained at PhotoImage Brasil onto our next international stops which will include India, the United Kingdom, Malaysia and France."

Currently in its third season of competition (Creating the Future), the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award is set to be the richest photography award in the world for the second season running. Founded in 2011 under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, the award is set to boast a grand prize of $120,000 and an overall prize pool of $389,000.
