The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) has concluded the July edition of the Instagram Photo Contest which was themed ‘Light’.

A total of five winners were announced for the competition which received submissions under the hashtag #HIPAContest_Light. The contest winners hailed from; Bangladesh, Oman, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and the United States of America respectively. The ‘People’s Choice Award’ was also awarded to the winner who received the most Instagram likes for their submission. This month’s ‘People’s Choice Award’ winner will receive a Canon EOS M50 camera along with three lenses, presented by Canon Middle East.

HIPA Secretary General, His Excellency Ali bin Thalith said, “Light is one of the most important components in photography, as without light we would not be able to capture photographs. In recent times, creative photographers have taken it upon themselves to use the light in their photographs to produce stunning visual masterpieces, leading to global appreciation. It is with this remit that we hoped to test the many talented photographers in our community by introducing ‘Light’ as the theme of the July Instagram Photo Contest. I congratulate all the winners for this month and commend them on their beautiful photographs.”

Venkatasubramanian Hariharan, the B2C Business Unit Director at Canon Middle East said, “In just one shot a photograph can tell an entire story that inspires people. Canon is committed to supporting and nurturing the next generation of photographers to tell their compelling and inspiring stories by providing them with pioneering technologies and solutions for that winning shot. We are honoured to be partnering with the prestigious Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) to further support their commitment to art, culture, and innovation in the UAE and the region.”

Winner of the ‘People’s Choice Award’ for the month of July was Saudi photographer Abdullah Alaskhsan @abdullahalakshan and he said, “It was a great feeling to learn that I had won in HIPA’s Instagram Photo Contest, as there were many other great entries who deserved recognition. I used studio lights to capture my winning photograph, which is of an Arabian horse at a farm in my hometown in Saudi Arabia. This is the second time I have won a photography award and I aspire to raise my profile outside of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East in the years to come. Winning the ‘People’s Choice Award’ has helped me gain a lot more followers on Instagram and I hope that it will be a stepping stone for me to compete in more international photography competitions.”
