DUBAI / The Hamdan International Photography Award (HIPA) is set to host a series of photography workshops during the month of January to raise awareness of the art form in the Emirate. Workshops are set to take place from the 10th until the 14th of January at the Auditorium in the Dubai International Financial Centre and will be presented by some of the biggest names in the photography industry.

Workshops are set to be 2 hours in length and cover various essential topics within the field of Photography. Speakers at the workshops will include world-renowned photographers Martin Grahame-Dunne, Joseph Smith and Tom Ang. All three photographers are also currently on the judging panel for the Hamdan International Photography Award and are in the process of judging submissions for the second season of the award “Beauty of Light”.

The Secretary General of HIPA, His Excellency Ali Bin Thalith, commented that “We are honoured to present the residents of Dubai with the opportunity to attend these workshops where some of the leading names in the industry will be available to share their expertise. We hope that we can achieve greater awareness and understanding whilst moving closer towards academic excellence within the field of photography with these workshops. The workshops fall right in line with our strategic goal of creating a hub for photography right here in Dubai, where the world’s leading photographers visit and share their experiences with the local photographic community. We have also made special arrangements to encourage media photographers to attend by allocating them a number of seats inside these workshops.”

The award, recently (Midnight, December 31st 2012) closed entries for its second season of competition “Beauty of Light”. Established in 2011 by His Highness Sheikh Hamadan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, it is set to boast the largest grand prize in the world of photography totaling US $120,000 and overall prize pool of US $389,000.
