1001 Inventions and Arabick Roots exhibitions in Doha

DOHA / Her Excellency Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museum Authority, opened the 1001 Inventions and Arabick Roots Exhibitions at the Museum of Islamic Art. At the event, attended by 500 distinguished members of the local and international cultural communities, guests were led through the exhibition on a journey to the Golden Age of Muslim Civilization in a memorable celebration of modern science’s heritage. Connected by the theme: “Explore our past to inspire our future,” the two exhibitions opened to the publicwith 1001 Inventions running until November 12th and Arabick Roots continuing until January 2013.

Akbar. The Great Emperor of India

ROME (Italy) / The Fondazione Roma presents an exhibition devoted to the Emperor of India, Akbar (Umarkot, 1542 – Agra, 1605) one of the greatest sovereigns in history. This exhibition has never been held before in Italy and, due to the number of works and historical completeness, is unique in the world since it covers the Emperorʼs entire reign. The last exhibition on this theme was held in New York by the Asia Society in 1984-86, showing around eighty works relating to 1571-1585.

‘Paraître’ by Nicènce Kossentini at Sabrina Amrani Art Gallery

MADRID / In the exhibition ‘Paraître’ Nicene Kossentini examines contemporary Tunisian society after the revolution. Among the ideological and political conflicts, the issue of identity emerges in a search for a new social model, and the social reference points diverge and divide between religion and modernity, freedom and conservatism. The presented artworks explore the confusion and disorder of identity by juxtaposing opposing dualities with origin in the theme of religion, generations or culture and heritage. The show is composed of video installation, ink works, photographic installation and sound and will run until 20 October 2012.

Contemporary British Artist Annya Sand Exhibits ‘Abstract Thinking’ at Art Gallery of Uzbekistan

Contemporary artist Annya Sand is showcasing her collection 'Abstract Thinking' with a solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of Uzbekistan in Tashkent. The exhibition will open on 5-6 October and run for two weeks. Most of the paintings are being lent by private individuals, this includes more than 7 different lenders from 5 countries. Annya Sand is widely regarded as one of the most aspiring young contemporary abstract artists and she has drawn critical acclaim from some of the most iconic art critics and international press in recent history.

New Perspectives in Contemporary Miniatures

ZÃœRICH / Galerie Kashya Hildebrand felt compelled to extend their investigation of Iranian artists after the overwhelming success of their recent Iranian Calligraphy exhibition. In the exhibition 'New Perspectives in Contemporary Miniatures' another significant recent trend is being examined: the re-appropriation of miniature painting in the works by Amir Farhad, Babak Kazemi, Farah Ossouli and Soody Sharifi. ‘I Dream of Jeannie: I See Demons’ by Eric Parnes

Hey’Ya: Arab Women in Sport

LONDON / Commissioned by Qatar Museums Authority, Hey’Ya: Arab Women in Sport, the first exhibition in London by the internationally renowned photographer Brigitte Lacombe with the documentary film-maker Marian Lacombe, is on show at Sotheby’s London from 25 July – 11 August 2012.

My Rock Stars: Volume 1
